Frisbee!

These are some pictures from our past two tournaments: one at Penn State University and one at Yale. This weekend we have a huge tournament, sectionals, which will determine if we go to regionals. Wish us luck!

Also, check out this poem, written by our very own Rachel! It's really very awesome!

The Weather!

After T'fillah B'Teva, the weekend was just full of amazing weather. We moved a couch out on the lawn and sat there all afternoon Saturday. Just too nice to sit inside!

After the nice day I went to Frisbee team initiation. I am VERY happy to be apart of the team and I now have a new nickname: Scout! Must get used to responding to it!

Purim and T'Fillah B'Teva

The 13th day of the Jewish month Adar: most Jews know this to be Purim, the holiday (actually not in the Torah but in the Megillah, a different book) where Haman (BOO) was plotting to kill the Persian Jews. Queen Esther, a Jew herself, saved the people. It is actually one of the most joyous holidays in the Jewish calendar. Children dress up as costume, skits of the story are performed, and adults drink until they cannot tell the difference between good and evil. Needless to say, Purim at Brandeis was a lot of fun:

Also a lot of fun was the BaRuCH nature retreat. BaRuCH is the reform Chavurah at Brandeis (affiliated with Hillel). This past weekend, for Shabbat, we ventured out to Northern Mass and stayed at a Girl Scout Camp from Friday afternoon through Shabbat Saturday. We had services, Israeli dancing, great meals, fun games, and amazing company. It was a lot of fun.
Check out some pics from out guitar session:

PS-- the tent picture was drawn by Jessica, as she was trying to portray our night's sleep Friday. With dew dripping on our faces, cuddling everywhere we looked, and coyotes off in the distance, it was an experience...a good one nonetheless!

Welcome, March

It's been a really long time since my last post. Too long. So I will quickly recap last month:

There was work. Lots of it. But the classes I am taking are GREAT and I am very happy. Brandeis fosters a great environment for work and when I have intelligent conversations with the people I surround myself with, I feel really, really happy. So work is good.

Frisbee is GREAT. I LOVE it. I LOVE them! I caught my first point the other day and it felt really good. Tomorrow is my first game, this weekend I get my nickname (initiation), and next weekend I have my first weekend tournament. All very exciting!

BaRuCH is also really, really amazing. We just had a Purim Spiel which was FANTASTIC. This weekend is our weekend retreat to a camp in New Hampshire and we will be doing Shabbat in nature (T'Fillah B'Teva), and I CANNOT WAIT. I love them too.

And the rest is just falling into place...

With the new month, I am going to try to post more. I will update y'all on what I have going on and what I told you was coming up.
For now, check out the pics:

Happy March!

First Entry

It's taken me a while, but I'm back! And, now I'm blogging from my new location...BRANDEIS UNIVERSITY, in Waltham MASS.

So what's new?

In the last four weeks I've made an amazing group of friends (see above).
There's Anna from Pennsylvania, Melanie from Brooklyn, Zoey from Westchester, Alia from Switzerland, and myself, from good old Long Island. And these are some of the brilliant people I've come to know and love here at Brandeis. Also in this picture are Avi, from Mass, and Emma, my amazing roommate from Boston.

To summarize: I've joined Brandeis' frisbee team, Banshee, and that has been going really well. I love the girls and the challenge, both physically and mentally, of learning a new sport. It's been something really good for me.
I've also continued my AIDS Awareness "hobby" here, as I joined Brandeis' HIV Awareness group. They do amazing things for people in the Boston community and I cannot wait to get my feet wet with what they have planned this Spring.
And finally, I joined Brandeis' Reform Hillel club, BaRuCH. It was a concern of mine that I wouldn't find my Jewish niche after leaving Israel, but I cannot describe how happy I am to have BaRuCH as a place where I can be myself and meet new people. I love it--everything about it--and am very excited to be here with BaRuCH over the next few years.

That was all a very short summary, but that's what I've been up to. I will give you more details of all things mentioned as time goes on.

For now, I am sad to report that we all got sick. Reprecutions of staying up late and not knowing spacial boundary limits with each other. All the better...we can take care of one another!

Come back and read more!
